Robert Louis Stevenson Museum
In February we went to the Robert Louis
Stevenson museum with the senior missionary couples. It was a last
minute trip set up by a guy who is a member of the church who knows a
lot about the place. We had a private tour as the museum was closed
for the day. The tour was great and we learned so much about him.
He loved Samoa and the people here and moved here because he had been
sickly from childhood and needed to live in a warm climate.
When I was a child, my dad read to us
from A Child's Garden of Verses and I loved hearing those poems and
had many memorized. It was really fun to see copies of some of his
books that had been printed in many languages.
Here are some pictures of the house and
grounds.
There are some of his books you can
check out and read on the porches. I would so love to have a porch
like this!
The view from the porch on the front.
The property is high up on a hill about
20 minutes from Apia and there is a cooler ocean breeze there.
Here are some pictures and articles
about Robert Louis Stevenson.
Some awesome weapons!
The wooden carved stairway.
After the tour they served us
sandwiches (a favorite refreshment here) and carrot cake. It was a
wonderful way to spend an evening.
