Mt. Vaea

Next to the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum (post coming) is a small mountain where Robert's gravesite is located.  When we toured the museum we decided we wanted to hike up, but it was too late that day.  We chose a Friday and taxied to the museum and began our hike up.  There are two paths to climb up and we chose to do the longer one up and take the shorter one down.  The trail was really muddy and slippery and we sure could have used the hiking poles which we had left at home. Here is a view from the top.

This is the grave of Robert Louis Stevenson

Another view from the top.

A beautiful view of the ocean.

Below is the museum and grounds.

We ate our lunch on a platform and enjoyed the views and headed down the shorter trail.  It was muddy, really slippery, and steep.  We had to be extremely careful not to slip. We were also blessed to have a cloudy cooler day and no rain until we come down.  Rain on that trail would have been bad!
So glad we came and conquered!
